Chris Schnackenberg is honoring Mr. Jim Washburn (History/Coach)
Mr. Washburn has been one of the best teachers during my high school experience. I took US History 2 with him during my sophomore year and remember his class two years after the fact. His class was the most engaging class I have taken part in and while he is strict on certain academic things that does not ever bleed into how friendly he is to every student.
It is also apparent that Mr. Washburn takes a large amount of pride in his work and cares about every student that walks through his classroom. To this day he remembers teaching me as well as my sister and never fails to ask how my family is doing. Also, when I asked him if he was free to be my teacher for Teacher Appreciation Night, he looked overjoyed to be in attendance. He checked his calendar and immediately gave me a yes, while I know most teachers would rather send me an email.
Lastly, as I walked in, seeing how much Gorty and others love his class, it’s great to know he is still bringing the same passion to teaching as he always has been.
Eric Schaar is honoring Mr. Jim Griffin (History/Strength Coach)
I chose to honor Coach Griff for all the help he has given me during my four years of high school. As a coach and an economics teacher Coach Griff has always pushed me to be great both on the court, and in the classroom. Coach Griff, thank you for opening the weight room for us every day, for making hard econ concepts seem easy, and most of all for understanding us as students and always knowing exactly what to do to help.
Christian Rowan is honoring Mr. Yannick Smith (Phys. Ed/Coach)
I choose to honor Coach Smith because he has an understanding of students. He always is able to put me in a good mood and always has positive energy. On days where I’m not in a good mood he is always there to talk to and help me get through the day. My favorite moment with Coach Smith is when he tried to joke with me for eating a sausage during unit lunch and then I go to gym and i see him eating the same thing.
Kye Lewis is honoring Ms. Sam Nowak (English)
The reason I chose to honor Ms. Nowak because of her personality, her ability to connect with many students, and her confidence within students succeeding. I met Ms. Nowak this year, and wanted to change my class because there weren’t any friends in my class, but once I met Ms. Nowak I felt more motivated and dedicated. She is a teacher who believes I could do anything I put my mind to, and takes time out of her day to make sure all my assignments are completed to it’s best potential. I am a person that is constantly belittling myself and constantly getting frustrated with myself. However, Ms. Nowak always explains to me that I’m wrong and can do more than I think I can do. Ms. Nowak constantly checks on me throughout the day when I run into her, and always offers to speak about life after school and my potential. She is outgoing, selfless, funny, and inspiring. Thank you Ms. Nowak for really being there for me and being one of my favorite teachers.
